NEWTOWN - CULTURE, GRAFFITI AND HERITAGE

NEWTOWN

Newtown is comprised of many cultures and is considered one of the most cosmopolitan and culturally diverse areas in Sydney. It has maintained its heritage with buildings up to 200 years old. Its unique style of architecture intertwined with its street art is what makes Newtown what it is today.

ABOVE ARE SOME PICTURES DEPICTING THIS.

A Visit to an Art Gallery – Gaffa - contemporary object art and design
I visited an art gallery which had a culture of its own. It was located in a somewhat similar style of area and enclosed within it was an art style of its own. But what I found interesting about what makes this and all other art galleries powerful is large white walls and open plan spaces with clear paths of circulation drawing you in and around the art gallery in the direction which the architect desired.

Above are pictures depict this art gallery.

Narrative

Street art is my life; I live amongst my work and yet can still be separated from it. I envisioned bringing the street inside my domain whilst still being separated from the outside world.

My Design

My Design hence required the following:
· Maintain the cultural and heritage style facade
· Incorporate a section of the art gallery to street art which would hence resemble the street.
· Incorporate a living space which would feel as though it is separate from the art gallery but realistically it is part of the same building
· Make the art gallery open plan, high ceilings, white and a clear circulation.
